The Immigration Division at PCLS assists individuals and families with a number of immigration applications including but not limited to family class sponsorships, permanent residence, citizenship, temporary resident visa extensions. We also assist with Pre-Removal Risk Assessments, Humanitarian and Compassionate applications and regularly represent clients at the Immigration Appeal Division and Federal Court.
In addition to direct legal services, we work closely with our community partners to provide public legal information workshops and advocate for a just and fair refugee and immigration system. We monitor significant legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments relevant to our work and communicate these to clients and community members. We also engage in advocacy, law reform and public legal education.
Our division has been involved in test case litigation, supported grassroots campaigns for status for all, and made submissions to the federal government to advance fairer immigration policies. We provide public legal education on topics of interest to settlement workers as well as members of the community. We work with communities in our catchment to identify issues and challenges they face and develop strategies to address these issues.
