Parkdale Community Legal Services stands in solidarity with precarious workers in the university sector who come together to challenge their marginalization in a context where universities are increasingly relying on their labour to deliver post-secondary education. In particular, we stand in solidarity with CUPE 3903 in their strike at York University.
We strongly condemn the union-busting and business-as- usual tactics deployed by York University to try to undermine the bargaining power of CUPE 3903 members.
While recognizing competing interests at play, including the interests of York University students, we are disappointed with institutional responses at York University that have resulted in faculty and students crossing picket lines.
We call on York University to negotiate a fair deal with CUPE 3903 to put an end to the labour disruption.
We encourage friends and alumni of PCLS to write to York University President, Rhonda Lenton (president@yorku.ca) to demand that York University negotiate in good faith with CUPE 3903.
