PCLS is a respectful workplace
Workplace violence, harassment and discrimination is not tolerated at PCLS. This includes:
- Destruction of property, or brandishing any item as a weapon
- Intentional disregard for the physical safety or well-being of others
- Verbal threats to hurt a PCLS staff or student
- Physical threats such as shaking a fist in a PCLS staff or students’ face ; hitting or trying to hit a staff or student ; throwing objects
- Leaving threating notes or sending threating emails to PCLS staff and students
- Bullying and intimidation
- Engaging in a course of vexatious comment or conduct that is known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome
- Making remarks, jokes or innuendos that demean, ridicule, intimidate, or offend
- Circulating offensive pictures or materials
- Conduct that isolates or targets a worker or groups of workers
- Repeated offensive or intimidating phone calls or emails
- Workplace sexual harassment, including the following examples:
- asking questions, talking, or writing about sexual activities;
- vulgar humour or language related to sexuality, sexual orientation or gender;
- leering or inappropriate staring;
- invading personal space;
- unnecessary physical contact, including inappropriate touching;
- demanding hugs, dates, or sexual favours; and
- making gender-related comments about someone’s physical characteristics, mannerisms, or conformity to sex-role stereotypes
- Discriminatory harassing acts or statements, including the following examples:
- unwelcome remarks, jokes, slurs, innuendos or taunting based on a person’s place of origin or sexual orientation;
- refusing to work or interact with a staff member or student based on a person’s race or disability;
- speaking about a minority racial or religious groups in a demeaning manner;
- making demeaning racial remarks, jokes or innuendoes about any staff or student
- delivery of racist and/or offensive e-mail or social media messages
- slurs directed at the language and accent of a particular group; and unwelcome remarks based on false assumptions about a person’s background or beliefs.
If you cannot interact respectfully, then you will be asked to leave the clinic or end the phone call with the staff member or student. Future services at PCLS may be restricted.
