2010 Zemans Award Recipient Honoured

Each year, Parkdale Community Legal Services presents the Frederick Zemans Prize in Poverty Law to the Osgoode Law School student who delivers exceptional service for the clinic and our community. On February 23, 2011, we were pleased to present the 2010 award to Nathan Higgins.

AwardedAs part of the PCLS class of 2010, Nathan worked for two terms – one summer and one academic – in the Immigration division. Demonstrating his versatility, he was then asked back for an additional summer term, this time in the SAVAH (Social Assistance, Violence and Health) division. During his tenure, Nathan demonstrated a commitment to the ideals of community lawyering and community action, going to great lengths for his colleagues and his clients.

Owing to the fact that a placement in the poverty law program is a highly sought-after position, the quality of our students consistently makes the choice of the recipient of the Zemans prize a difficult one; however, the consensus among staff, management, Board of PCLS is that Nathan’s leadership and dedication to the needs of his clients made him the obvious choice.

The staff and Board of PCLS would like to thank Nathan Higgins for his contribution to the Parkdale legacy of delivering exceptional community legal services and community outreach, and congratulate Nathan on this achievement.

Parkdale Community Legal Services is a Toronto-based community legal clinic. Opened in 1971 as a project of Osgoode Law School, PCLS was the first of its kind in Ontario, combining poverty law services, a clinical education program and community outreach for the west end Toronto neighbourhood of Parkdale.
